Making the decision to have hair restoration surgery is a big move. Some people may find the procedure embarassing, even the thought of going to the clinic can be frightening.

We’ve all seen the results of poorly performed hair transplants on TV, this is enough to put some people off the thought for life. But there are outstanding, professional surgeons out there that can perform indetectable hair transplants.

So how do you go about finding one of these reputable hair transplant surgeons?

Firstly, check your doctors credentials, if you are in the US, they should be a member of most, if not all of the following organizations:

AHLC: American Hair Loss Council

ISHRS: International Society for Hair Restoration Surgeons

ABHRS: American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery

AACS: The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery

Secondly, find a doctor who is willing to sit down and talk to you about your options. The more time that the doctor is willing to sit with you and answer questions, the more likely it is that he is a professional, ethical surgeon. You should get the feeling from talking to the surgeon that he has your best outcomes, not his bottom line, as his first priority.

Thirdly, a doctor should be comfortable discussing with you the risks involved in the procedure. A doctor who glosses over the risks and possible complications should be avoided.

Fourth, ask to see some before and after pics of surgeries that the doctor has performed. The doctor should be able to show you actual photos, not a glossy brochure.

Finally, do an internet search on the name of your doctor. This will give you an indication of both their involvement in the industry, and any negative feedback people may have posted on forums or blogs.

After going through this process, you will know if you are comfortable with the doctor you have chosen. Don’t make this decision in haste, finding the right hair transplant surgeon for your particular needs and circumstances is a very important process.

If you are looking for a hair transplant in North Carolina, contact The Koher Center for Hair Restoration.

If you’re suffering from hair loss, and are thinking about having a hair transplant, you’ll find that there are a lot of myths about the subject.

To try to dispel some of those myths, and shed a little light on the subject, here you’ll find a list of some of the myths we come across, and our answers to them.

They need to be maintained: Hair that has been transplanted needs no more care than your natural hair. You can do anything in the way of styling that you would do with your natural hair.

It’s too late: Untrue. Actually, when a pattern of hair loss has been established, it’s much easier to determine which hair is a good canditate for transplantation.

It can fall out: This is false. The hair is surgically implanted into your scalp. When transaplanted properly, your hair should not have any greater risk of falling out that normal hair.

It hurts: The use of anesthetic creatly reduces the level of discomfort of the hair transplant procedure. You may experience some level of discomfort, but the anesthetic will dull the pain considerably

They’re expensive: Whilst hair transplantation is not a particularly cheap procedure, when compared to the benefits of increased self esteem and sense of wellbeing, the benefits can far outweigh the costs.

People will notice: Before the widespread use of FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), some hair transplants which were poorly implemented were noticeable. Using new procedures, transplants performed by competent surgeons will not be noticeable.

As you can see, most of the myths surrounding hair transplantation can be dispelled easily. It is a safe, permanent procedure, which can have lasting benefits to a persons sense of wellbeing and personal image.
